Work life balance is so important, and probably why I spent a couple hours just the other night cuddled up to my little one talking, tickling and having fun. But there is a lot to be said with having an opportunity to talk to people about work topics that share a comment goal and interest. It is very energizing to share in some of the same experiences and problems. I enjoy the work I do, and have interest outside of work to learn more, and amazingly enough this helps me to perform more efficiently in my daily work to continue with that balance. ENJOY THE WEEKEND! Do something fun besides upgrading databases.

I have found that documenting failures either script wise or procedure wise, helps prevent getting it wrong next time as well. Since you have gone through that experience, even sharing your failures can help others avoid these mistakes and learn from it. I will it admit because of inexperience, I have had difficulties with database restores, but have since gotten it right. Having those error messages and a procedure that has notes about not to do something a certain way has really made it easier the next time around. I am planning on sharing some of these experiences at Collaborate09, so others can benefit.

I hope everyone will make arrangements to be in San Francisco on Sunday to participate in the IOUG SIG meetings, and presentations. Please look for me on Sunday running from meeting to meeting and take some of my time to discuss your current SIG. IOUG has launched several new SIGs and redesigned old ones; it is a great place to get familiar with what IOUG is doing in the industry. I look forward to meeting with the IOUG family at OOW.

Hi Tony,

As usual, you significantly played down your role and effort in making COLLABORATE '06 happen, and keeping IOUG effective!

Thank you for everything!

Tony,
Thanks again for a great blog. It does take me back to Nashville! I'm not sure I agree with you that the Linux team 'won' the debate. Of course that could be because I was on the Commercial Unix debate team. :) I felt that their only points were that Linux was low cost and could be run on low cost (throw-away) servers. Unfortunately with the debate format such that it was I wasn't able to point out that in order for what they said to be true (high availability and the ability to add LUNs on the fly) you would need to spend more $$ on things such as RAC licenses, Veritas clusterware, etc. They weren't talking about 'out of the box' Linux installations which would be where you would save the most money. Well, the debate was fun and there were good points made on both sides I think.

I'm looking forward to COLLABORATE 07 in Vegas! But for now, I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep from Collab06.

Cheers,
Bonnie

There is a CD with presentations and whitepapers available for the IOUG sessions. You may send an email to ioug@ioug.org and they will help you buy the CD.

I'm glad you had a great conference experience. It was a wonderful event with lots to presentations, exhibitors and networking opportuniities. I hope we will see you at COLLABORATE 07 in Las Vegas next year.

This was the first time that I attended the OAUG & IOUG function. There were many excellent sessions provided by IOUG but were too little time to see them all. I was wonder if I can get a copy of the presentation CD or view of the presentation presented by IOUG member. I did not see them on my OAUG CD. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Tony,
I have to admit that I just found your blog today. I enjoyed reading it and it brought back great memories of last week's conference. Thank you!

Where you going to blog the last day? I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the closing debate.

It's hard to pick out any single technology that was most popular. I personally talked with dozens of vendors and they were all very pleased with show traffic and interest in their products. Sorry, I wish I had a more specific observation for you. Does anyone else care to chime in?
